Students in Mr. William’s shop class at V.C.I. supported our Time Capsule Project by building the box where students will place their Pringles can time capsules. Our class decided to create two time capsules to ensure we had one safe from the outdoor elements. The first, which will be buried, is a PVC pipe containing each student’s laminated All About Me infographic, a copy of their Letter to My Future Self and a class picture. It will be buried in front of the school during a ceremony on Tuesday, October 14th. A wooden post, also crafted by V.C.I. students, with a plaque will be displayed at the site.
The second time capsule is the box that will hold each student’s Pringles can time capsule. Each can includes the student’s original Letter to My Future Self, written throughout September and October. The letter has three paragraphs: the first, All About Me; the second, Current Events and Pop Culture in 2025; and the third, a description of their chosen artifacts and why they are meaningful to them in 2025. On the top of the box is a plaque with each students’ name and the coordinates of where the time capsule is buried, 45°32’52.6”N74°38’12.0”W.
Students are looking forward to opening the time capsules in seven years, when the grade 6 students will be graduating from grade 12 and the grade 5 students will be preparing for their final year of high school.
