Time Capsule Ceremony

On October 14th, 2025, Mrs. A.'s Grade 5 and 5/6 students were joined by parents, family members, staff, and community guests to commemorate the burial of their time capsule. The ceremony began with students carrying their Pringles can time capsules from the school to the burial site, where they were placed in a special time capsule box crafted by Matthew Williams' shop class at V.C.I.
Teacher Jennifer Anderson, who was the project and event organizer, opened the event with a welcome speech and introduced the Mayor of Champlain Township, Mayor Normand Riopel. Other speakers included Debbie Hall, President of the Vankleek Hill Historical Society; Jennifer Black, Curator of the Glengarry Pioneer Museum, and student teacher Jan Amell, who also acted as project and event organizer. The ceremony concluded with speeches from student representatives Tenley MacKinnon (Grade 5/6) and Madeline Janacek (Grade 5) on what this project meant to them and how excited they are to open their time capsules in 7 years. Other guests included Corina Parisien, UCDSB Board Trustee; Alice Higginson, Director of the Vankleek Hill Historical Society; James Morgan, Publisher & Editor of the Review Newspaper, Vankleek Hill; and the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) Media Department.
